What an AI receptionist should actually do

The agent answers, says it is an AI assistant for your business, asks what they need, offers two open slots, and books the one they choose. If they agree to texts, it asks out loud first and confirms by text.

In the morning the whole exchange is in your inbox: the caller, a transcript of the conversation, a short summary, and the booking. If a conversation needs you — a complaint, an unusual job, a price you have not published — you can read it and take over from your phone.

Guardrails a business owner will want

The agent answers only from what you have approved and says when it does not know. Payments, refunds and anything with legal or medical weight are routed to a person rather than decided by the model. Texting is consent-first: a business texts only people who contacted it, STOP always works, and numbers are never bought or uploaded from a list.

Calls are transcribed so you can check what was said, but the audio is not recorded. RAIMVOICE is not an emergency service and cannot route 911 calls, so a business that takes urgent calls should keep an urgent-callback path for people, not software.
